News of the World Accused of Phone Hacking

This article from the BBC discusses allegations against News of the World made by various people (including celebrities and politicians) whose phone lines were hacked.  Those working for for News of the World attempted to learn more about people through their phone conversations in an effort to get a story on them.  This touches on the point that was made in class that there is a difference between investigative journalism and creating a story.  Although the journalists may find relevant information, if they do it in an unethical or illegal way, it does not seem fair to report the story.  It would be interesting to see the reaction if this happened in the United States.
