The Power and Politics of Blogs

What I found most interesting about this reading was the effect bloggers’ instantaneous opinion posting can have on traditional media outlets’ coverage. If one angle of analysis is repeated on blogs, traditional journalists pick up and run with that as a necessary news story. In some ways, if it’s a popular line of thought, the mainstream media needs to address it for the consumers. But the story is not unique nor did  it come internally. It brings to mind the Walter Pincus article calling for journalistic courage. Why don’t journalists interpret for themselves and pursue their own interpretation for a news story? Where is the creativity, the research, the original analysis? News stories are merely repeated and repackaged from outlet to outlet. Yet again, we have many more media outlets than ever before, but we have less news.
