Banned Social Networking Websites

The United States Marine Corps has banned access to a number of social networking websites. More branches of the United States Military are expected to follow.

Although somewhat unrelated, I thought it was interesting because it pertained to new media with emphasis on Twitter.

  1. ESPN has also cracked down on Twitter usage. According to this NY Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/05/sports/05espn.html?partner=rss&emc=rss ESPN employees are only able to use social networking sites in a limited capacity. Some of the constraints seem reasonable but it just goes to show that as new forms of media develop, new rules have to be made as well.
